THIEN MU PAGODA

The next stop of the day is Thien Mu Pagoda, the tallest one in Vietnam as well as one of the most iconic symbols of the old capital. With its high position, on Ha Khe hill, upward a charming curve of Huong River, the pagoda offers a magnificent view of both the flow and the surrounding areas.

When approaching the pagoda, you’ll first notice the 7-storey octagonal tower named Phuoc Duyen Tower, rising to the height of 2 meters. The tower was built in the mid-19th century to commemorate the 80th birthday anniversary of King Thieu Tri’s grandmother.

Passing the 3-door gate are 12 huge wooden sculptures of the temple guardians looking fearsome. Then, in the middle of the area, you’ll find the main sanctuary of the pagoda – Dai Hung Shrine. Here, a giant bell created since early 18th century, measuring 2.5 meters in height and over 3 tons in weight, as well as a tortoise in steel is housed in the main building.

HUONG RIVER

The Huong River (also translated as Perfume River) – the iconic symbol of Hue, is about 80 kilometers long. The river owes its name to the fact that it flows through many forests of aromatic plants before reaching Hue, bringing it a fresh and delicate fragrance.

If you want to have a splendid view of the river, come here in the late afternoon. When the sun begins to disappear below the thick haze and the range of mountains on the horizon, the orange colors create a sublimely rich, golden scene, silhouetting the distinctive shapes of some local wooden boats. Located about 7 km from Hue center, Vong Canh Hill stands at the height of 43 meters, with its foot bordering the bank of Huong River.

The best time to catch that breathtaking view is at sunrise, when the sun’s rays cover the clouds and bathe the rivers with its golden paint. That’s surely something you don’t wanna miss!

Khai Dinh Tomb

Tomb of Khai Dinh (Ung tomb) is the mausoleum of Khai Dinh king (1885-1925) who is known as the 12th king of the Nguyen dynasty situated on a mountainside Chau Nhu, outside Hue Citadel. Khai Dinh Tomb is considered a unique and strange architecture as mixing a number of architectural styles. The tomb locates at the slope of Chau Chu Mountain – 10 kilometer from Hue City. You can reach the tomb by the road or by boat along the Perfume River. The view from the top level looks out onto a typical picture perfects cene of village and rice fields.   • Be aware that the climbing up the stairs is quite exhausting, as it is very steep and the dark stone can get very hot. The overall of the tombs is a rectangular construction with 127 steps. To enter to tomb, you will ascend 37 steps with the biggest dragon in the country.

Tu Duc Tomb

Tu Duc tomb  is a great place to look through and understand how the emperor took time off. There’s various areas and architectural pieces to look at. The most relaxing worshipping areas that overlook the lakes. Great stone work and tile work. Really intricate and amazing. The surrounding landscape is gorgeous as well.   • Motorbike for rent: You can ride by yourself from Hoi An to Hue city and drop the motorbike there. If you need to rent, you need to show your passport, nationality, your driver license and they will give back to you after you drop off motorbike in Hue. The price will be around 20$- 25$/ 1 motorbike.
  • It is much more better if you want someone that take you on the back of motorbike. Easy rider is the best way for you. By sitting on the back of bikes, driver will take you over the Hai Van Pass and Lang Co Beach for your sightseeing. Absolutely, it is safer compared to riding by yourself.
